{Technological} ignorance is bliss

…well at least until you need to find something in your inbox.

Your gmail is like a bottomless pit where things go to disappear–or at least that’s how it feels anytime you want to find something important. There are Bed Bath and Beyond coupons from a decade ago begging  you to grab 20% off that Yankee Candle. Teachers pay Teachers receipts of every single resource you’ve ever purchased.

If we’re being honest there’s probably thousands upon thousands of emails sitting there never to be touched again. And as much as you know that something could be done with all that shit cluttering up your inbox–you don’t know where or how to even start. But every time you log in to your gmail the frustration and inbox rage get you and you swear that it’s time to change. You want to finally…

  • Stop letting the FOMO of deleting a coupon you may one day need hold you back and accept that if you haven’t used a coupon in the past year, you probably never will.
  • Unsubscribe from all those damn emails that you never open and set boundaries around new email lists you join.
  • Be able to find what you need when you need it by using a filing system you can actually understand and keep up with.
  • Know what features gmail has to maintain your inbox, and stop shutting down because it feels like it’s too hard to learn.

Your inbox may hold a lot of (email) history, but it doesn’t need to keep it’s hold on you.

You aren’t David, I’m not Moira–
Neither one of us is gonna keep repeating “fold it in.”

I realize that technology isn’t easy. But I also admit that in order to tame your inbox you have to use that technology. When developing this course it was important to me that I meet you where you are. That is why I made sure that this course stays focused on these three pillars.

Make Gmail Easy

Gmail is a powerful and severely misused tool. By expanding your Gmail knowledge and leveraging its capabilities–you’ll gain a whole new world of possibilities.

Simple Strategies

You could organize until the cows come home. But organizing without a strategy is just moving one pile of shit to another. Building a foundation, and creating a strategy will help keep your inbox your way (you know, exactly how your brain needs it!)

Always Sustainable

No one wants  their inbox to get clean once and then turn back into a bottomless pit where things go to disappear. So by increasing your knowledge and partnering it with strategic organizations–sustainability is achieved.

Free yourself from the prison that is your disastrous inbox!

In this course…

Module 1 | Sorting it all out.

Did you know that the majority of gmail users don’t really know how to use their gmail? Well–after this module that will not be you. Within Module 1, you will learn all about the various sorting functions of Gmail. You’ll even gain insight on important nuts and bolts strategies to set up your new shiny inbox filing system.

Module 2 | Cut Out the Clutter.

With your new inbox foundations in place–it’s time to set fire to the chaos in your inbox. Well maybe not set fire, but get rid of what you no longer need! Whether you’re ready to delete all your emails in Gmail (without losing those you want to keep) or want to take a slow and steady approach–this module has you covered.

Module 3 | Maintain and Move On

Just because you’ve gotten your inbox to a clean slate–doesn’t mean it’s gonna stay that way. Well at least it won’t without a plan. Module 3 is all about creating a sustainable, manageable plan for keeping up with your new pretty inbox.

Module 4 | Inbox with a View

The way information is presented can greatly affect what people do with that information–your inbox isn’t any different. If your current inbox view makes no sense to your brain it’s no wonder you’re struggling to get your inbox to stay organized. In this module, you’ll learn how to create an inbox view that works the way you want it to.

BONUS | Give me all the automations!

Gmail is filled with tons of amazing tools and automations, but you can’t use them if you don’t know about them! This module helps fill you in on all the details so you can continue to expand your Gmail prowess and really make Gmail work for you.

Is this the “kick in the pants” you needed to START?

Mind Blown! I have set up Action Folders (labels) and filters so that my workflow is clearly laid out for me. I get around 35 emails weekly alerting me that a donor used Zelle to transmit a donation. I set up a filter to find anything with QuickPay and send it directly to my Zelle folder. I can see how many there are because I don’t open them until I’m entering them into my database. I also have labels for Check Run and To Do.

It will take some doing to have those filters but I cleaned out my inbox and I can go through new emails and move them to the color coded Action Folder I will handle them from. My sidebar is short and neat and everything is so much cleaner. -Nancy W.

Lisa McH, Digital Organizer and creator of the Tame Your Inbox Self-Paced Course, sits on a carmel colored leather couch with wooden slats wearing in a gray sweater and black shirt.

Oh friend–I know it can seem scary when you are not tech savvy and someone is telling you they can help you by teaching you tech. It totally seems like an oxymoron–I know. But trust me. Each and every day I work with non-techy humans who struggle with literally every aspect of using their computer. And that is who I love helping to find sanity in their digital storage.

But if it helps you feel more confident, here are some red flags this course isn’t for you.

  • You are NOT a gmail user although some ideas might be helpful–this course is for GMAIL only.
  • You are looking for a magic “fix it”  button that fixes your inbox for you.
  • You thrive in the disaster that is your inbox and you think fixing it will screw with you.
